Sonam Kapoor’s father is the Indian actor and producer Anil Kapoor. Her birthday is June 9, 1985. Anil Kapoor Film Company is a company that her father founded. Sunita, Sonam’s mother, is a former model and designer.

Rhea, Sonam’s sister, is a producer of motion pictures. Her brother, Harshvardhan, is a member of the Bollywood industry. Sonam’s aunts were the actresses Mona Shourie and Sridevi.

Sonam was chosen to serve as the film Black’s associate director. When Bhansali announced he wanted to cast her as the lead in Saawariya, she became interested in acting.

At that time, Sonam weighed 80 kg, and Bhansali counselled her to slim down. She shed 35 kg in only two years because to her motivation. With Roshan Taneja, Feroz Abbas Khan, and Jayati Bhatia, she pursued acting training.

Sonam received a role in the 2011 film Thank You. Three ladies gave their wicked husbands a lesson in this comic film about three women.

Then, with Sahid Kapoor, she performed a love character part in the critically panned film Mausam. Poor reviews were also given to this film.

Abbas Mustan reworked The Italian Job for the big screen (2003). Although the critics had greater hopes, the film’s box office performance was poor.

Players, a 2012 film starring Abhishek Bachhan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Bipasha Basu, included Sonam Kapoor in a hacker role. Sonam’s part was initially meant for Katrina Kaif. She was unable to take part in the production, however.

Raanjhanaa’s Life-Changing Performance

The 2013 film Raanjhanaa was a turning point in Sonam’s whole career. Journalists regard her performance as the finest up to that point. She played Varanasi-based young Muslim college student Zoya Haider.

She joined politics while in a relationship with her Sikh boyfriend, who was ultimately assassinated. The film was directed by Anand L. Rai.

Then Sonam made an appearance in Milkha Singh’s biopic. She merely asked for Rs. 11 to see the film. The film had a 300 Million INR total budget.

The film received favourable reviews and rose to the top of the 2013 Bollywood box office. Both Raanjhanaa and Bhag Milkha Bhag were winners of the Best Films category of the Filmfare Awards.

Sonam was cast in the Yash Raj Films comedy-drama Bewakoofiyaan in 2014. She was paired with actors Rishi Kapoor and Ayushman Khurana in the role of banker Mayera Seghal.

She then performed Fawad Khan’s Khoobsurat. Actress Rekha played the main role in the movie, which was an adaptation of the same-named 1980s television show.

Her performance drew mixed reviews from the critics. For this film, she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

On social media in 2015, Sonam Kapoor connected with Sahir Berry. Sahir Berry was a businessman and a fashion model. They had a romance together before breaking it up.

Sonam Kapoor is the L’Oreal brand ambassador for India and also appears in advertising. According to Rediff.com, Sonam receives 30 million INR for one advertisement.

She was also called out when she joined the Black Lives Matter campaign because she endorsed skin-lightening products.

Social Advocacy

Sonam Kapoor is a very active social worker. She frequently donates to charity for various causes. Sonam participated in 2009’s International Indian Film Academy Awards, supporting orphans on Indian film industry workers.

She even wrote a letter to the Home Minister of Maharashtra for a ban on the glass-coated thread used to fly kites because it kills birds.

Sonam got into controversy when she stood in support of Salman Khan, accused of hunting endangered Blackbuck.

In 2012 Sonam ran a campaign on her birthday where she asked fans to donate to the Ogan Cancer Foundation.

She even collaborated with the organization to spread awareness about breast cancer. Kapoor also is in support of LGBT rights in India.

Sonam even auctions her clothes online. The proceeds are then donated to organizations. Even the profit gained from the song Dheere Dheere was donated to charity.
